Talk It Out, Walk It Out

Presented by Remembering Cherubs in partnership with The Wright Museum, Talk It Out, Walk It Out is an annual event to raise awareness and break the cycle of health disparities impacting Black women. It serves as the official kickoff for Black Women's Health Month in Detroit.

Emceed by WDIV Local 4 News host Tati Amare, the event is held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and includes an opening ceremony and community conversation, followed by a symbolic awareness walk around the museum grounds. Participants engage in structured wellness and educational experiences, including:

• On-site health screenings
• Mini-workshops on under-discussed
health topics
• Healthy food demonstrations
• Sound bath sessions
• Culture-centered interactive activities
• Access to the All-Black Marketplace
featuring local vendors and
entrepreneurs

The disparities Black women face are real, urgent, and unacceptable. Did you know:

Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications compared to white women.

They are more likely to report high levels of workplace stress, anxiety, and emotional distress—but are less likely to seek therapy due to stigma and financial barriers.

Conditions like fibroids affect Black women at significantly higher rates, often with untreated symptoms that reduce quality of life.

These numbers tell a devastating story of inequity, but they aren’t the full story. Because behind the statistics are mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who are striving for wellness. Together, we can create a legacy of Black women being heard, cared for, and empowered to live their healthiest lives. Join us!

Black Women's
Health Month

Black Women’s Health Month is a community-led initiative created by Remembering Cherubs to address health disparities impacting Black women. The month officially kicks off with Talk It Out, Walk It Out

Throughout August, Remembering Cherubs coordinates a series of partner-led activities under the Black Women’s Health Month umbrella. Community partners host classes, workshops, webinars, and events aligned with the month’s five priority focus areas: Maternal & Reproductive Health, Mental Wellness, Physical Wellness & Chronic Disease Prevention, Research Equity, and Social Determinants of Health.

This coordinated calendar expands access points across Metro Detroit, ensuring Black women can engage in education, dialogue, and resource connection throughout the month.
